Additional Info
Why SG Dr Bus?
Currently, there are many bus apps in Singapore and a common feature they provide is to allow the user to save their favorite bus stops for quick reference. When the user decides to commute, they will need to remember the bus stop name and locate them manually through a list. We feel that this is not optimal, as bus stop names are hard to remember and are not meaningful to the commuter in most cases.
From a daily commuter’s point of view, the user already knows where he/she wants to go. The most important information they need is the bus arrival timing that gets them to their destination. With this in mind, we came out with idea of “Daily Routes” for SG Dr Bus (“Dr” pronounced as Doctor, also represents “Daily Routes”). The Doctor saves your brain for more important things rather than memorizing bus stop names.
What SG Dr Bus can do for users?
With “Daily Routes”, the user creates a route they take from origin to destination. The route includes custom labels, the bus stop and bus services they take to help them reach their destination. Once the routes are created, we can fulfill the aim of providing relevant information to them fast!
User Scenarios
Scenario 1:
- (Route A) Home -> Work [Frequently Taken]
- (Route B) Work -> Home
- (Route C) Home -> Shopping
When the user at home and starts the app in this scenario, he/she will see (Route A) and (Route C) with bus timings on the home page! The user decides to head to work and look at the bus timings that is needed right at the top of the page. And we’re all done here! The goal is archived without any user interaction after starting the app. That’s what we meant by providing user relevant information fast, without flooding them with unnecessary information (Route B).
Scenario 2:
- (Route A) Home -> Shopping [Multiple Bus Stops]
What if you need to change buses on the way? No need for finding bus stops through lists again before reaching the next bus stop. We make things easier by allowing users to add multiple bus stops to their routes. From the home page, they can simply click into the route to see all bus timings for buses in that route.
Scenario 3:
- (Route A) Work -> Home [Pinned on Mon-Fri, 5pm-7pm]
This is another scenario we encountered when commuters transfer from train to bus. While on the train, they might need to know the bus arrival timings although they are not at the bus stop yet. They are 10 min away by MRT but kilometers away from the bus stop. Nearby features will not work as the commuter is simply too far away from the bus stop. Our solution is to allow users to pin the route on the home page, on a scheduled day and time setting. With this setting, the user launches the app at 5.30pm on Monday while on MRT. User immediately sees (Route A) with bus timings on home page.
